I got irked each time I read glowing red hot lies that Mrs. O is size 8 or 10. I don’t know dress sizes too well because they vary by style and manufacturer, but I knew she was no 10 in any sense related to that numer.
I was so fed up that I figured out estimates on her measurements.
Michelle Obama has certainly kept her arms in shape but not much can be said about the rest of her body.
Because her waist and hips are on the large size she opts for clothes without sleeves in order to wear smaller dresses and tops. And it works for her, but seeing her sleeveless all the time looks strange and at times even inappropriate.
I used two frontal photos to get the width of her shoulders, waist and hips. By knowing her height I was able to figure the relative length of these horizontal measurements. I used the length of her facial features to estimate measurements from the profile photo. And here are my estimates:
Shoulder width 18″
Waist 35″
Widest part of hips 46″
Her bust measurements are maybe 37″ to 39″. Her waist size has to be more than 29″.
She is size L at the top due to her broad shoulders even while her waist and bust measurements are small. That is why her cardigans are too small – she most likely buys them according to her bust size.
At the bottom she is at least misses size 18 or XL. Nowhere near size 10.
At the top she can wear 10 – 14 if the armholes and sleeves are large enough. But the smaller the top is the shoulder seam moves closer to her neck. Her cardigan sleeves are usually too tight and wrinkle around the armholes because the size is too small.
I guess Michelle thinks that wearing sleeveless tops which are as small as possible she will look slender because her upper torso is small compared to her shoulders and hips. And she is right. But she also looks good in smooth simple dresses with 4/5 sleeves as she wore at the DNC.
But when she wears a suit like she did for Congress last month, she looks matronly and heavy because her wide shoulders require a large size jacket or top. This was the worst type of suit for her figure.
Below is an outline of how I arrived at the numbers. Note that the hip size semi-circle is only 9″ deep while the actual thickness (side view) is 11.5″ so at least 3 inches should be added to that arch. The minimum hip size is 46″ and it could easily be 50″. And that geometric model of her hips is much smaller than her actual hips: the front would not be flat, and at the sides her hips are must thicker than the corners of the semi-circle. So I would bet her hips are really 50″ and a bit more. I have kept all the numbers are small as possible so that I can feel comfortable saying her hips are 46″.
President Obama wears pant size 33. Which looks right. His hip size is somewhere around 42 inches or more. So my estimate of 46″ hips for Michelle is reasonable looking at the photo below, but her hips look even bigger than 46″ when comparing to Obama’s rear. In this tight yellow dress (which was totally inappropriate at the IOC meeting last Friday), seams of some girdle type underwear are visible, the same as her pope outfit.
This yellow dress was a huge mistake. Wrong color for fall, shiny material for a business event and a huge bow tie to make sure everyone will look at her – in amazement – how can this be one of the world’s style icons? She is Jackie NO.
When a woman dresses this desperately to get attention she should be dressed flawless. When she occasionally wears the right clothes she can look glamorous and beautiful as long as she keeps a smile on her face.
Here is another photo of the size difference between the Obamas. Michelle is tall and has a huge hair do so she appears to be relatively slender standing by herself. But add President Obama to the photo and Michelle makes him look like he weighs 90 lbs.
Did she leave the price tag on her top? If that is part of the design then the top is ill suited for the jacket. The top with that neck line just does not go with that jacket, it ruins the nice modern simple design. It looks like she could be wearing a top, a cardigan, and a jacket. As it gets colder how many items will she be layering???
Add the belt and she looks like she is trying real hard to dress up like a style icon for a casual event. Someone her size or bigger should not wear light colored pants, actually no pants is better for pear-shaped women.

OK I am glad someone finally shed some light on this. Yeah she’s in shape and can look good, BUT I WAS SICK OF HEARING HOW SHE IS JUST LIKE JACKIE KENNEDY! What an insult to Jackie K. Wait a minute. You are slightly shorter than Jackie O. was and weigh about twenty pounds more than she did, yet you wear the same size pants as she wore clothes? Yet somehow I can see that. I was in the military–6’1″–normal weight 165 and small boned and wore a size ten loosely. However, I could go up to just over 180 if lifting and still wear the same size because at my height the ten pound rule size change just didn’t apply. It would take at least twenty pounds for my size to change in the upward direction.
As one tall woman to another, I would say that Mrs. O. is about a size ten, perhaps a size twelve at the bottom. I think her hips look larger when compared to her smaller upper body and fine arms. Personally, I don’t care if she is a size 14. She is fit and looks good and shows that you don’t have to be a size two, to feel that you are an appropriate size. I only wish I had her hips. At my height, they were only 37 inches.
I feel as long as she is fit and is an appropriate size, which she is given her height, she could probably weigh 180, which she probably doesn’t, and still be with in the proper weight on the weight tables. That is what is wrong with the world today. There is the pervasive message that all women should be stick figures and if you aren’t, then you are obese. She is not overweight and by no means does her bodyfat measurement probably meet obesity.
I’m a 40-something woman who is 5’10″ tall. I weigh 160 lbs. and have a medium frame. I’m not particularly muscular. I have a pear shape very similar to Michelle Obama’s. My measurements are 36-29-39. I can easily fit into a size 8-10 dress, and I can sometimes wear a 6 if it’s an A-line skirt or pants with a “curvy” cut. I would guess that Mrs. 0 is a size 8-10 or, at the very most, a size 12 on the bottom.

When I read comments on this blog, one of the first things I notice is name calling; one of the second things I notice is whether or not the poster uses proper English.
First, your name: “ItsObviousYoureUgly”
I immediately knew your type from your name. Right off the bat, you have to insult the owner of this blog, Newsbird. Secondly, you don’t know elementary school punctuation, as you left out two apostrophes. There should be an apostrophe between the “t” and “s” in It’s and one between the “u” and “r” in you’re. The reason is that both are contractions. The first is a contraction for “It is” and the second is a contraction for “you are.”
I find that when the facts don’t support a person’s position that they resort to name calling. And when the name calling is written, you can always count on poor English and/or punctuation.
The result is that you are showing that you are uneducated and therefore aren’t capable of making an intelligent conclusion when presented with facts.

In fact, the gap between black women and white women is no doubt closing since white women discovered “squats” to pump some substance in to their usually, historically flat butts. Same with the lips appearing more plump. Yep, the gap, as far as appearances is narrowing.
So…whether Mrs. Obama is a size 8 or 18, she is FLOTUS and should be accorded RESPECT.
She is the first FLOTUS I’ve ever seen throw a ball, run, ride a bike. WOW!!! I’m impressed for one.
BTW, someone called Mrs. Obama a mooch. How is that possible when the woman was working in the capacity of a lawyer, making more money than her some-day-to-be-husband as well as his mentor. I think there is a lot of jealousy in this ol’ world. Not just towards Mrs. Obama, but as a whole. People seem to hate each other just because they can. So sad!
